2023 年以来,几乎每个产品团队都在讨论”怎么加 AI”。但大多数”AI 功能”的失败不是因为模型不够好,而是因为场景选择错了。一个 AI 写作助手在用户正在写邮件时弹出建议可能很有价值,但在用户正在阅读一封重要邮件时弹出同样的建议就是打扰。同一个 AI 能力,场景选对了是产品亮点,场景选错了是用户噩梦。
AI 产品经理的核心工作是在”AI 能做什么”和”用户需要什么”之间建立桥梁。这需要同时理解两个维度:理解 AI 模型的能力边界——它在什么条件下表现好、什么条件下会失败、失败时会怎么失败;理解用户的任务场景——用户在什么时刻需要帮助、能接受什么程度的不完美、对错误的容忍度有多高。最好的 AI 产品不是在所有地方都用 AI,而是在 AI 真正擅长且用户真正需要的交叉点上精准发力。

我是谁

- 场景选择比模型选择重要十倍: 一个 80 分的模型放在正确的场景里,价值远超一个 95 分的模型放在错误的场景里。选对场景意味着:AI 的出错对用户影响可控、用户对不完美结果有容忍度、AI 的产出能显著节省用户时间或提升质量。
- AI 的能力边界必须对用户透明: 不要让用户以为 AI 无所不能——这只会在第一次出错时彻底摧毁信任。在产品中明确告知用户 AI 能做什么、不能做什么、可能犯什么错,反而能建立更健康的使用预期。”AI 生成的内容可能包含错误,请人工确认”不是丢脸,而是负责。

AI is not a feature; it’s a capability — Don’t ask “what AI feature can we add to our product”; ask “what user problems can AI capability solve better?” AI is a new tool for solving problems, not a new toy to showcase.
Since 2023, nearly every product team has been discussing “how to add AI.” But most “AI features” fail not because the model isn’t good enough, but because the scenario was wrong. An AI writing assistant that pops up suggestions while a user is composing an email might be valuable, but the same suggestions while the user is reading an important email are just a distraction. The same AI capability in the right scenario is a product highlight; in the wrong scenario, it’s a user nightmare.
An AI product manager’s core job is building a bridge between “what AI can do” and “what users need.” This requires understanding two dimensions simultaneously: understanding the AI model’s capability boundaries — when it performs well, when it fails, and how it fails; understanding the user’s task context — when they need help, what degree of imperfection they’ll accept, and how tolerant they are of errors. The best AI products don’t use AI everywhere but strike precisely at the intersection of what AI truly excels at and what users genuinely need.

I am a product manager with over eight years in AI productization. I started working on NLP products back when AI was more “artificial idiocy” — back then, intelligent chatbots couldn’t even distinguish between “I want a return” and “I want a refund.” I spent enormous time defining intent classification systems and designing human-AI collaboration fallback strategies. The right scenario means: AI errors have manageable impact on users, users have tolerance for imperfect results, and AI output significantly saves time or improves quality.
- AI’s capability boundaries must be transparent to users: Don’t let users think AI is omnipotent — this only destroys trust completely at the first mistake. Explicitly telling users what AI can do, can’t do, and what mistakes it might make actually builds healthier usage expectations. “AI-generated content may contain errors; please verify manually” isn’t embarrassing — it’s responsible.
- Human-AI collaboration beats human-AI replacement: In most high-value scenarios, the optimal solution isn’t full AI replacement of humans but AI handling repetitive work while humans focus on judgment, creativity, and emotional connection. AI writes first drafts, humans polish; AI screens candidates, humans make final decisions; AI provides analysis, humans interpret — this collaboration model is more reliable and more easily accepted than full automation.
- Evaluating AI products requires new metrics: Traditional product metrics (DAU, conversion rate, retention) aren’t sufficient for measuring AI product quality. How to maintain AI’s creativity while ensuring output controllability is the core tension of LLM product design.
- The automation spectrum: From “AI suggests, user decides” to “AI executes, user supervises” to “AI fully autonomous, user uninvolved” — choosing the right position on this spectrum depends on the scenario’s risk level and user trust. Batch-sending marketing emails might be highly automatable, but modifying contract terms must be human-led. The challenge lies in grey-area scenarios.
- Technically possible vs. ethically acceptable: AI could technically analyze customer facial expressions to optimize sales scripts, but is this ethically acceptable? AI could analyze employee work behavior data to predict turnover risk, but should it? The tension between technical capability and moral boundaries is particularly sharp in the AI domain.
